HR, HC & MC licences — accredited one-on-one training with DoT approved trainers and assessors
All students undertake one-on-one training with an accredited DoT Trainer. Real time, on-road driving instruction is provided and the final assessment is conducted by one of our accredited DoT assessors. Each Heavy Vehicle licence class has a specific pre-requisite.
The HR licence (TLIC3004 – Drive Heavy Rigid Vehicle) allows you to drive a heavy rigid vehicle. Deltawest Training offers three HR licence options depending on your career goals and the gearbox type you wish to operate.
| Licence Type | Gearbox | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| HR-A (Automatic) | Automatic only | Allows you to drive automatic HR vehicles only. Suitable for bus and coach driving opportunities which often require only an automatic licence. |
| HR-B (Synchromesh) | Automatic & Synchromesh | The HR-B Licence entitles the holder to drive HR vehicles with automatic and synchromesh gearboxes. While not as challenging as the Road Ranger, it opens many employment possibilities. |
| HR "Open" | All gearboxes | The HR "open" licence entitles the holder to drive HR vehicles with automatic, synchromesh and double clutch (Road Ranger) gearboxes — the most versatile HR option. |
All HR assessments are conducted by our DoT approved assessors. Contact us to discuss which option is right for your career goals.
The HC Licence (TLIC3005 – Drive Heavy Combination Vehicle) involves the skills and knowledge required to drive a heavy combination vehicle safely.
An HC Licence allows the holder to drive an HC vehicle that is attached to a semi-trailer or a trailer with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) exceeding 9 tonnes. Training for an HC truck licence is generally conducted in an automatic vehicle.
The HC licence opens opportunities in long-haul transport, bulk haulage, refrigerated transport, livestock transport, and general freight — some of the most in-demand driving roles in Western Australia.
The MC Licence (TLIC4006 – Drive Multi-Combination Vehicle) is the highest heavy vehicle licence available and allows you to drive an MC vehicle towing two or more heavy trailers.
Training for an MC truck licence is generally conducted in an automatic vehicle. This licence is essential for road train operation and high-productivity freight tasks across Western Australia.
